Basic Growsafe Course – Dunedin

Introduction

The Basic Growsafe course is based on the NZS 8409:2004 Management of Agrichemicals and covers the safe, responsible and effective use of agrichemicals in the workplace.

The objective of the GROWSAFE Basic programme is to recognise agrichemical users who are able to demonstrate a basic competence in the safe use of agrichemicals under supervision from a suitably qualified person. The Basic programme is managed by the New Zealand Agrichemical Education Trust (NZAET) is a voluntary programme but it may enable employers to meet health and safety and/or regional plan requirements for training and competency.

Who should do this course?

The Basic certificate is intended for those working under supervision. The focus is on practical competence and provides practical, task-related knowledge and skills with a focus on safety, following workplace procedures and label instructions. It is an entry level certificate suitable for those new to agrichemical use, those working under a suitably trained person or those doing pre-employment training. Applicators with a GROWSAFE Basic certificate should be operating under the supervision of someone with a GROWSAFE Standard (or higher) certificate.
